Craniofacial Research Opportunities

University of Minnesota School of Dentistry

Inquisitive, academically strong undergraduate students are invited to participate in mentored research programs for periods of at least one semester. The scope of research opportunities might be captured with the phrase, “building a better head” and areas of investigation range from innate immunity to bioengineering. Participating labs use the latest research techniques and state of the art equipment, and conduct experiments on questions of significant scientific interest.

Successful applicants will show serious interest in pursuing a research career, perhaps partnered with a career in clinical dentistry. Each semester, students will register for at least 2 credits of research hours and commit at least 10 hours per week to the laboratory. A learning contract will be established for each student researcher.

To be considered, please submit a Directed Research Application (PDF). You will need Adobe Reader 8 or 9 to fill out this form. Download the latest version of Adobe Reader for free.

When you hit the “submit” button on the application, you will be taken to a page that will allow you to email the application to Jean Underwood. At this point, please also attach your current resume to the email message.

For consideration, please apply by:

  • April 15 – Summer and Fall semester research opportunities
  • November 15 – Spring semester research opportunities
