CBS Policy on IDL Biochemistry, Genetics and Cell Biology

CBS students who wish to enroll in BioC 3021 Biochemistry, Biol 4003 Genetics, or Biol 4004 Cell Biology as an Independent and Distance Learning (IDL) course need special permission to register. Access to these core classes in the curriculum is restricted to students who can demonstrate a solid academic foundation for success in an independent course and have a compelling academic reason to engage in off-campus learning. The goals of this policy are to ensure that students gain proficiency in these subjects, earn passing grades, and make timely progress toward graduation.

To request permission to enroll:

  1. Complete the Petition for Students in Undergraduate and Professional Programs (PDF) and the IDL Request Form (DOC) forms.
  2. Submit both forms to the CBS Student Services office in 229 Snyder Hall to be reviewed by the CBS Scholastics Committee.
    1. You will receive a decision regarding your request via email from the CBS Scholastics Committee.
      1. The Committee meets every week September through May.
      2. The Committee meets every three weeks June through August.
