Description: The National Science Foundation Directorate for Biological Sciences

Global Change Education Program/ Graduate Research Environmental Fellowships
(GREF)

Description: The GREF program began in June 1999 to support graduate students
in the Office of Biological and Environmental Research-funded collaborative
global change research at universities and national laboratories. All qualified
students are encouraged to apply, but minority and female students are particularly
encouraged. The fellowship program makes three-year appointments, renewable
annually, and pays an annual stipend of $19,200 ($1,500 monthly plus a $600

Description: Summer Programs in Japan, Korea and Taiwan for U.S. Graduate Students

Bernard and Jean Phinney Graduate Fellowship in Plant Molecular Biology

Description: The fellowship is awarded for one semester. The fellowship
award will include a stipend at the graduate fellowship level for the semester,
as well as tuition and fringe benefits. One award will be made. Concurrently
with the Phinney Fellowship, the fellowship recipient may hold up to an additional
25% assistantship, or its equivalent in value, from another source. Students
who are currently pursuing Ph.D. research in any relevant graduate program
with a faculty mentor in the Plant Biology Department, and who have completed
at least one year of graduate study at the University of Minnesota, may apply.
Students working with faculty who have full or joint appointments in Plant
Biology are eligible to apply. Applicants employing molecular approaches to

The purpose of these awards is to assist students in the initiation (first
two years) of their systematics projects and in the collection of preliminary
data needed by them to pursue additional sources of support (e.g., Doctoral
Dissertation Improvement Grants from the National Science Foundation) or to
enhance dissertation research (e.g., by visiting additional field collection
sites or museums). Applicants may be from any country, but must be members
