Prospective Students

Join the Plant Biological Sciences Graduate Program and receive a stipend, tuition and health benefits.

You will have an excellent opportunity to further your education and research training in basic plant biology, integrated from molecules to ecosystems. More than 55 faculty from nine departments and three colleges are potential research advisors. The PBS program offers cutting-edge research opportunities both on campus and abroad. The program provides mentoring to help students reach their career goals working in academia, industry, governmental agencies or private organizations. To apply please complete the PBS program application form (PBS application as well as applying on-line to the University of Minnesota's Graduate School http://www.grad.umn.edu/prospective_students/apply_online.html
Follow instructions on each form and included all requested materials.

To prepare a competitive application please provide a clear picture of your past scholastic performance, and academic and research potential. The preferred performance level of GRE scores is above the 60th percentile. It is desired that international applicants should score at least 600 (or 250 from a computer-based test) on the TOEFL. International students with M.S. degrees or prior research experience are given stronger consideration.

Once admitted to the program, students making satisfactory progress in their coursework, research, and programmatic requirements will be supported for either four (with prior M.S. degree) or five (with prior B .S. degree) academic years subject to the availability of funding. Major sources for financial support include: Research Assistantships, Teaching Assistantships, and Graduate School Fellowships.
