School of Public Health Recruitment Luncheon

What: Luncheon for those interested in learning more about the School of Public Health
When: Friday, July 13, 2007, Noon–1:00 p.m.

Numerous staff and faculty will talk about opportunities to learn and practice public health. You may be amazed at the breadth of this field. Our majors are:

  • Biostatistics
  • Clinical Research
  • Community Health Education
  • Environmental Health
  • Epidemiology
  • Health Services Research, Policy, and Administration
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Public Health Nutrition
  • Public Health Administration and Policy
  • Public Health Practice

Our graduates work to improve the health of populations through research in cardiovascular and infectious diseases, development of programs to prevent tobacco use and alcohol abuse, educational efforts to lower adolescent obesity, management of nuclear and organic waste, monitoring of drinking water qualilty, analysis of the effects of food irradiation and hormone replacement therapy. They improve the sanitation of hospitals, and safety on farms and factories. They study the health conditions of migrant workers, premature infants, victims of torture, kids on reservations, and elderly in nursing homes. Public health researchers and practitioners have identified links between smoking and cancer, and exercise and heart disease. They have eradicated smallpox worldwide traced the path of the AIDS virus, and are at the forefront of bioterrorism prevention. There is much more to do. Come to think about how you might be a part of the compelling work of public health!
