Ultimate Homecoming Parade

The Ultimate Homecoming Parade was Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m. To show our school spirit, approximately 70 students, faculty, staff, and alumni represented the Nature of Life program and all seven departments within CBS. The students created caricatures to represent each of the departments. Dean Robert Elde and CBS founding Dean, Richard Caldecott, rode in a convertible along with the Biological Sciences Alumni Society Board of Directors President, John S. Anderson. TCF Stadium Open House

On October 4, 2009 the College of Biological Sciences joined the rest of the University of Minnesota to show off its shiny new football stadium to the public. Approximately 30,000 people attended the event and learned about melamine testing and biofuels at the CBS display, which had a theme of “Who Wants to be a Scientist.” View full-screen slideshow.

Biology House Dinner

Biology House students

Every year the BSAS board holds a dinner for students at Biology House located in Frontier Hall. Biology House provides freshmen biology students an opportunity to live together in the residence halls. It combines residence hall life with social and academic opportunities. Minne-College in Florida

The University of Minnesota Alumni Association coordinates this event to bring some of the U of M’s best professors to Southwest Florida. This year’s participants included: College of Biological Sciences; School of Medicine; School of Public Health; School of Nursing; Institute of Technology; and the Alumni Association’s Southwest Florida Chapter. STAR WARS at the Science Museum

Star Wars

On June 24, 2008 the College of Biological Sciences and the Biological Sciences Alumni Society held a private reception at the Science Museum’s Star Wars exhibition. Larry Rudnick, an expert lecturer in astronomy, gave a presentation. Costumes, models and props from all six films were featured. Special guests included Stormtroopers, Jedi and a TIE Pilot. On June 5, 2008 the College of Biological Sciences dedicated the Raymond Lindeman Research and Discovery Center and Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve along with a crowd of supporters, students and university employees. This field station is located an hour north of the Twin Cities in East Bethel, Minnesota. Watch a video about Cedar Creek with remarks from Dean Robert Elde and Regents Professor David Tilman.

CBS hits Seattle

On March 13, 2008 Dean Bob Elde and Development Director Laurie Hennen visited with the alumni chapter in the Seattle area at the home of Lou and Luther Towner. After a beautiful reception and a little networking Bob gave a presentation on renewable energy and the environment. The evening was filled with great information, questions and stimulating discussion. While these alums were from colleges all over the University, they all were interested in the topic and enjoyed the evening. View photos from this Seattle event.
