Our lab studies the evolutionary biology of fungi, especially those involved in the lichen symbiosis. A large part of our work is focused on molecular systematics and the uses of phylogenetic trees for studying the evolution of morphological, chemical, and ecological characters. Other projects include the assessment of functionally significant gene families, such polyketide synthases in a phylogenetic context.
