In addition to the Seed-to-Root program, several avenues of funding exist for students and other researchers to pursue research projects at Itasca Station.
Undergraduate students
CBS Dean's Research Program
University of Minnesota College of Biological Sciences undergraduates are also eligible for the CBS Dean's Research Program, through which CBS students can earn up to $4,200 for 12-14 weeks fo research work.
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
University of Minnesota undergraduates may apply to the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP), which can provide an $1,800 scholarship stipend for 120 hours of research, and up to $300 of supply expenses.
Graduate students
Fellowship Opportunities for Current UMN Grad Students
The University of Minnesota Graduate School provides fellowship opportunities for current UMN graduate students to help fund research. Some of these funds may be applicable for research at Itasca Station.
CBS Graduate Programs
Specific graduate programs, including the Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior and Plant and Microbial Biology programs, might have funding resources for students that may be applied to research at Itasca Station. Current students should contact their program coordinator for more information about specific opportunities.
Faculty/Postdocs
NSF Field Station and Marine Laboratories Grant
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has grants available to support planning proposals or major improvements to Biological Field Station and Marine Laboratories (FSML). More details on how to apply for this funding can be found on their webpage.
