Loading E-6 slide film to a cassette using the WATSON bulk film loader
Contact Mark Sanders to schedule
a training session before using the equipment.
- Very Important: Make sure Bulk
Film Compartment Cover (the Gate) is turned to the extreme clockwise (closed position). Check the side of the compartment to determine the position of the gate.

- Open the film cassette and remove the spool. The easiest way to open is to slam the cassette on the counter top, long side of spool down. Also, remove any old tape.
- Open the Access Door. Be sure gate is closed!

- Use a piece of label tape to attach the film the spool. The long side
of the spool should be the farthest away from the Crank. [DO NOT OPEN THE GATE
to advance the film.] In order to attach the film to the spool, pull out about
2” of film.
- Slide cassette body over the spool
and secure body with end cap.
- Gently pull out on Crank and Spring-loaded
Knob.
- Place film cassette into area between
Crank and Knob.
- Release Knob and press it against
the main case. Push and rotate the Crank until the spool slips
into the groove at the end of the film cassette.
- Check to see that film notches
are aligned with the sprocket.

- Firmly, close the Access door.
- Open the Bulk Film Compartment Cover
(the Gate). Be sure gate is turned fully counter-clockwise (open position).
- Slowly
turn the crank while holding the knob tight against the case. Each click
is a frame. Add six frames to the actual number of frames desired. (i.e.
wanted 24 frames, roll out 30 frames = 30 clicks)
- Close Bulk film Compartment
Cover (the Gate) by turning to the extreme clockwise or closed position.
Look on side of the compartment cover to indicate which direction to close
the gate.
- Remove the cassette from the main
body and cut the film with scissors approximately one inch
away from the cassette.
- Pull film leader out of cassette
approximately 3 inches. Make a diagonal cut across leader.
- The
film is ready to expose to make slides.
