Mounting the Imaging Center Transfer Server on your Mac OS X Desktop

  1. In the Finder menu, choose Go and then Connect to Server.

  2. In the Server Address field, enter smb://160.94.173.214/share1 or smb://ic_transfer.cbs.umn.edu/share1. Click the + button to bookmark the server as a favorite. Click on the Connect button.

  3. Be sure Connect as Registered User is checked. In the Name field, type transfer and for the password type transfer. Click Connect.

  4. A new window will appear showing the contents of the Transfer server. It may take several minutes for the list to populate. You can then find your folder and drag files and/or folders from the server into directories on your own computer. If you don't already have a folder, simply choose File and then New Folder and rename the newly created folder. To speed up access to your particular folder in the future, you may create an alias of it, and then cut & paste the alias to your desktop. You can then double click the alias to directly access your folder.

The Purpose of the Transfer Server is NOT FOR LONG-TERM STORAGE of your data. Please remove your files as soon as possible after transfer to your own system so that others can use the space. Files left on the space for over 30 days will be deleted. If you need longer-term storage, please contact Imaging Center staff for information on how to set up your U of M NetFiles account.

DO NOT PLACE FILES IN THE ROOT DIRECTORY OF THE TRANSFER SERVER; INSTEAD, PLACE THEM IN YOUR USER FOLDER. Each user is allowed one folder (with unlimited subfolders) on the Transfer server.
