Submitting an Application
The deadline for the receipt of application materials is December 1, 2009 for the cohort matriculating in Fall 2010. The Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior Program only reviews applications for admission once per year and does not engage in rolling admissions. Only complete applications that are submittedon time are guaranteed review. The procedure for applying is described below.
Application Procedure
The application for admission to the EEB Graduate Program at the University of Minnesota is available through the online ApplyYourself system. For your application to be considered complete, you will need to provide the following materials to the Graduate School via this system:
1) A completed online ApplyYourself Application. Please complete the first 8 sections of the online application (Personal Information, Application Information, Languages, Educational Background, Employment/Residence Information, Awards & Activities, Financial Support, Legal agent/privacy statement) as requested on the application.
2) Personal Statement. In the "Applicant Statements" section of the application, please complete Statement #1. Please limit this statement to no more than 2 pages and address the content requested on the application. This statement is an important part of your application and will be read carefully by the EEB Graduate Faculty for content and coherence. Statement #2 is not required, but may be submitted if you so desire. In particular, if you are an American citizen and wish to be considered for the DOVE fellowship, you must submit Statement #2 and indicate that you wish to be considered for a nomination to this fellowship in your statement. Please limit this statement to one page. If you have any areas of concern in your application (i.e. low test scores, a poor grade), you may address these in the Extenuating Circumstances statement. Otherwise, this statement is not required.
3) Letters of Recommendation. The EEB program requires three letters of recommendation from people who can elaborate on your academic abilities and suitability for graduate study. Recommendation letters should be submitted electronically via the ApplyYourself system. If a recommender will not submit a letter online, s/he must send the letter directly to the EEB Graduate Program at the following address: EEB Graduate Program, Ecology Building - Room 100, 1987 Upper Buford Circle, St. Paul, MN 55108. We must receive all letters of recommendation by the application deadline (December 1, 2009).
4) Transcripts. The EEB Graduate Program requires copies of transcripts from all universities and colleges that you have attended. For your application, these may be unofficial transcripts, and you should upload them using the "upload document" button next to "Upload 1" on the "Graduate Program Supplementary Information" page. If you are accepted to the program, the Graduate School will require official copies of each transcript before you will be allowed to matriculate. These official copies should be sent to the following address: The University of Minnesota Graduate School, Office of Admissions, 101 Pleasant Street SE, 309 Johnston Hall, Minneapolis, MN 55455-0421. You may send these official copies along with your application, but please also upload the unofficial copies directly to the ApplyYourself system.
5) GRE and TOEFL scores. Official GRE and (if applicable) TOEFL scores must be sent by ETS to The Graduate School (the school code is 6874). In addition, to ensure that these scores are immediately available to the EEB program for evaluation of your application, please upload a copy of your (unofficial) score reports using the "upload document" button next to "Other Credentials" within the section entitled, "Graduate Program Supplementary Information" on the ApplyYourself application. International students should upload one file that contains both their GRE and TOEFL score reports.
If you have any questions about the application process, feel free to contact the Director of Admissions, jansa003@umn.edu, or the Program Coordinator, wiggins@umn.edu, or call the program at 612-624-6770.
