Sabbaticals

The University of Minnesota has both single-semester leaves and sabbatical leaves. Probationary faculty can apply for a single-semester leave after two academic years of service, tenured faculty are eligible after four academic years of service. Single-semester leaves need to be approved by the College. A faculty member is eligible for a sabbatical leave after six academic years of service. For further information consult the Faculty Development Leaves Policy. To apply for a single semester leave, submit the Faculty Single Semester Leave form to the department head. To apply for a sabbatical leave submit the Faculty Sabbatical form to the department head.

A single semester leave is at full salary. A sabbatical leave is compensated at one-half salary and full benefits. Faculty may compete for supplementary funding through the college. These funds are very limited. A faculty member who is planning to take a sabbatical leave is encouraged to seek outside funding. Application deadlines for outside funding are often due more than a year before funds become available.

Support
