Course Desciption:
BioC 8041 develops the ethics of scientific investigation from the viewpoint of the traditional western scientific enterprise through a combination of case studies, small group discussions, and lectures. Topics to be presented include authorship and data handling, intellectual property and mentorship, plagiarism and misconduct. In addition, the course analyzes the relationship between science in today's culture to public policies and contemporary society. To link scientific investigation to the public, careers in molecular and cellular biology are described through a combination of invited speakers and discussion of career tracks.
