Botany and zoology were named in the territorial legislation that created the University.
The Botany Department was created in the College of Science, Literature and the Arts.
Josephine Tilden, the University's first woman scientist, established the Minnesota Seaside Station on the coast of British Columbia.
Lake Itasca Forestry and Biological Station was established with a forestry training program.
Cedar Creek Natural History Area was established as a University field station.
The College of Biological Sciences was created to bring together a variety of departments, programs and field stations.
Department of Zoology was divided between Ecology, Evolution and Behavior and Genetics, Cell Biology and Development.
The Biological Process Technology Institute was formed to create a connection with biotechnology industry. It was renamed the BioTechnology Institute in 2002.
The name of the Botany Department was changed to Plant Biology.
Dean Elde led a University-wide reorganization to strengthen biological sciences.
Minnesota Legislature funded the Initiative for Renewable Energy and the Environment.
Cedar Creek Natural History Area was renamed Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve.
Itasca Biological Station and Laboratories turned 100.
