Research Interests   Gene Regulation; Protein Structure-Function Relationships; Metabolic Regulation

Research in my laboratory is aimed at understanding the molecular detail involved in gene regulation, the relationship of protein structure to protein function and mechanisms that control overall cellular metabolism. To study these phenomena, we use molecular biology techniques and cooperate with other laboratories that use biophysical techniques.

In one project, we are studying the mechanisms that control cell-cycle regulation of the operon encoding ribonucleotide reductase in Escherichia coli.

In another project, we are using site-directed mutants of thioredoxin and glutaredoxin to investigate residues that couple enzyme activity to protein folding and stability. We are further investigating the regulation of the genes encoding these proteins and how these proteins are involved in keeping cellular proteins in a reduced state.
